The online system is the Department’s preferred way to prepare and submit an application to export, import or transit hazardous waste to, from and through Australia. The system has eight sections that must be completed before an application can be lodged.

The information you include as part of your online application will generate two PDF files that can be reviewed, printed and edited:

  1. An Application form – this is used in the assessment of your application by Department. An electronic copy of this form will be automatically sent to the Department upon submission of your application in Section 8, except where an approved agent completes the application where a signed uploaded Application form will be required.
  2. A Notification document – This is used by the Department to notify other relevant country competent authorities of the proposed movement. You will be prompted to print, sign and upload this document in section 8 of the form, “Review and Submit”.

As you complete your application, you will be prompted to upload documents as supporting information for your application. This includes, but is not limited to, details of the transporters/carriers, information on waste generation, the disposal/ recovery operation, insurance, contracts and financial information.

For information on how to view, save, edit, delete, download or print a draft Hazardous Waste application, please view the Manage applications topic in the Help Centre.

More information on applying for a permit, including the supporting documents you will need to upload with your application, is available on the Hazardous Waste Permits/Applying for a permit page of the Department of the Environment and Energy website.
